Tonga is one of the few Pacific nations that was never fully colonized by foreign powers. Because of this, the country still has its traditional monarchy and strong cultural roots. The people are proud of their history, their royal family, and the traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Life in Tonga is deeply connected to family and community. Families are usually large, and relatives support each other in many ways. Respect for elders and leaders is very important in Tongan culture. At gatherings, people come together to eat, sing, laugh, and celebrate life.
